In villages like Pyrgos, the night transforms into something magical. As the faithful carry flower-decorated tombs through narrow alleyways, the entire village lights up with thousands of small lanterns and flares placed along rooftops and streets, creating a scene that looks straight out of a fairytale.
At midnight, churches across the island proclaim "Christos Anesti!" (Christ is Risen), and the sky explodes with fireworks. People light their Easter candles (Lambathes) from the Holy Flame and carefully carry it home to bless their homes.
Families gather for a lavish Easter feast, featuring traditional lamb on the spit, red-dyed eggs, and the sweet aroma of tsoureki (Greek Easter bread). In true island fashion, the day is filled with food, laughter, music, and dancing.
